The New WHEELS Network
Highlights of the New NetworkĀ
All Day Service for a Flexible CommuteĀ
There will no longer be separate commuter shuttles and WHEELS routes, as all routes have been combined into one WHEELS network. All key work destinations will be served by all-day WHEELS service, giving you flexibility for when you travel, and providing additional local connections. Take WHEELS 3 to get to Merritt 7 and Walmart and WHEELS 7 to get to the hospital, ASML, and Wilton Center from South Norwalk Station and the Burnell Blvd Hub.Ā
Evening and Weekend Service on WHEELS Keeps Your Routes ConsistentĀ Ā
Instead of your route changing based on the time of day or day of the week, three routesāWHEELS 1, WHEELS 2, and WHEELS 3āwill run until 11 PM on weekdays and operate 7 days a week.Ā
Three Transit Hubs for Coordinated and Smooth TransfersĀ
The WHEELS network is centered on three hubs, where you can make transfers between bus routes and to other services:Ā
- South Norwalk Station: WHEELS 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 and Metro-North New Haven LineĀ
- Burnell Blvd WHEELS Hub: WHEELS 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 and the Coastal LinkĀ
- East Norwalk Station: WHEELS 1, 4, and 5 and Metro-North New Haven LineĀ

Find Your New RouteĀ
All shuttle and bus trips are changing with the new network! Use the tables below to find the route you currently use and which new WHEELS route will get you there starting August 11, 2025. For some trips, there will be more than one option, and there might be more ways to reach your destination than are listed here.Ā Ā
WHEELS BusĀ
The numbers of the WHEELS routes are all changing, so make sure you check what your new bus route is called, even if the path the bus is taking is not changing much. Some WHEELS routes are changing more than others to make trips more direct and improve frequency.Ā

Frequently Asked Questions – FAQS
When will my bus change?
NTDās new network will launch Monday, August 11, 2025. You might see some extra buses running on Sunday, August 10th, as NTD will be conducting a dress rehearsal, which will allow us to make any adjustments for a smoother launch day.Ā
Why does Norwalk need a new bus network?
NTD completed a 2-year planning study called NTD Ahead to better align NTDās services with the needs of the Norwalk community. Through this work, NTD has developed a new network that achieves several outcomes, including:āÆĀ
- More service during nights and weekendsāÆĀ
- Less duplication of services for passengersāÆĀ
- Clearer route structure through operating just one WHEELS network rather than a separate commuter and night/weekend networkāÆĀ
- More direct routes for more reliable and quicker serviceāÆĀ
- Greater frequency of serviceāÆāÆĀ
Based on the findings from the NTD Ahead project, NTD will continue investing and growing its services over the next ten years. The launch of the new network on August 11 sets the stage for NTDās planned growth.āÆĀ
How are the new WHEELS routes related to the current routes? I already ride a WHEELS route, will that change?
The new network is a complete redesign of the current routes, so all route numbers have changed. More details on how current routes map to the new routes are available in the Find Your New Route section of this site. Generally, all current WHEELS riders should consult this information for their new routes. Current commuter shuttle riders should look at new WHEELS 3, 5, and 7. Current night/Sunday shuttle riders should look at new WHEELS 1, 2, and 3.Ā
I take a commuter shuttle from the train station, can I still take transit to work?
All commuter and express shuttles will be replaced by a WHEELS bus route, with longer hours, midday service, and increased frequency that give you more flexibility on when and where you ride. Take WHEELS 3 to get to Merritt 7 and Walmart and WHEELS 7 to get to the hospital, ASML, and Wilton Center from South Norwalk Station and the Burnell Blvd Hub.Ā
I use ADA Paratransit, does this impact my ride?
Existing paratransit customers will be unimpacted and can continue to schedule new trips, even if they live in an area no longer served by WHEELS service.āÆNew paratransit customers will need to live within the boundaries created by NTDās new service footprint.āÆĀ
NTD will also continue offering Wheels2U ADA-accessible service available to anyone within Norwalk.āÆĀ
Where do passengers go to transfer between routes?āÆ
The new NTD network will utilize three transfer locations for passengers:Ā
- South Norwalk Station: WHEELS 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 and Metro-North New Haven LineĀ
- Burnell Blvd WHEELS Hub: WHEELS 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 and the Coastal LinkĀ
- East Norwalk Station: WHEELS 1, 4, and 5 and Metro-North New Haven LineĀ
Why does my street no longer have service?āÆ
As part of the NTD Ahead process, the project team evaluated how effectively NTD provided service across the Norwalk community. Some areas had very few riders, so the resources from those routes went to serve areas with more people to ensure efficient use of NTDās limited resources. However, these areas will continue to be served by Wheels2U ride sharing service.āÆĀ
Will my ride cost the same?
Yes, there are no changes to fares, and you can keep using the same payment method youāve used before. Learn more about fare and pass options here.Ā
